Do I need software for my Zebra TC501 to scan barcodes and save data?
Yes, the Zebra TC501 does not come with software.
Our TracerPlus Mobile Software is a great solution for the Zebra TC501 and allows you to create custom barcode enabled forms with no programming.
Can I use my existing TC5x accessories with the TC501?
A new cradle cup adapter kit allows for the continued use of existing 5-slot and multi-slot ShareCradles, enabling a simple and cost-effective upgrade path. While some accessories like batteries and trigger handles are specific to the new form factor, many existing accessories, including RFID sleds (by purchase of new adapter plates or by using Bluetooth pairing) and Zebra ring scanners, remain compatible.
Is integrated RFID standard on all models?
Yes, integrated short-range UHF RFID is a standard feature on all TC501 models, for both WLAN and WWAN configurations. This enables a wide range of applications, such as item location and inventory management, right out of the box. Integrated short-range UHF RFID capability for WLAN SKUs will be enabled via a LifeGuard software update which is slated for release in April.
What is "hot swap" and how does it work?
Hot swap functionality allows a user to change the device's battery while the device remains powered on. This feature, standard on all TC501 SKUs, ensures no downtime during a battery change by maintaining application states and connectivity, however the display is turned off. This capability provides approximately 30 seconds of power to swap the battery after which the device will go into a suspended state where data in memory is maintained, for an additional 30 seconds but without connectivity.
